What if the law forbids Realtors from soliciting business by phone or direct mail?

Did you know that by law an attorney cannot solicit estate planning clients?
It is hard to believe how the law works. Imagine if you, as a Realtor, were forbidden to send mailings to solicit business from homeowners?
Well, this is exactly how the law works for an attorney working in the field of probate. An attorney is forbidden to send direct mailing to a person who needs probate assistance. Instead, they must be contacted by the individual client first. However, they can do mass advertising, but nothing directly sent to an individual or an interested party. Attorneys’ lack of ability to contact probate clients by law provides a great opportunity for you as a Realtor to network with them by referring clients to them. Mailing letters to Successors could be very rewarding. The average successor’s age is over 65 and they are old-school and prefer a letter. Here are some tips to keep in mind when producing your letters. Your letter should be read in less than one minute. This is not an autobiography; it is a response mailing. You are asking for a response so they can contact you.
 
Below is a sample letter, but do not undermine the effectiveness of it. We suggest you make your letter fit your personality.
 
For example, if you just sold a house in the area, on part 2 of the letter you can write:
 
“I just sold the property at: 888 Gold Crest Lane. Would you consider selling yours?”
 
The key is to be creative with your letters, but again, this is not an autobiography. Fortunately, for you, our template letter is very easy for you to use.
 
If you have a letterhead stationary, please use it. If you do not have one, use the feature that allows you to produce your letterhead stationary on our web site.
On bottom paragraph of the letter you can explain about your services, but always ask for the ORDER.
